When to enable geo monitoring

• Your service has users in more than one region.
• You need to separate local provider issues from global outages.
• You want DNS, TLS, and HTTP evidence from multiple networks.
• You need response time comparisons across Europe and the United States.

Reliability and false-alarm protection

Geo monitoring includes several safeguards so brief network blips don't create incidents:

• Transient network errors (timeouts, connection resets, DNS hiccups) are automatically retried once after a short delay before a failure is reported.
• A location's status flips only after two consecutive failed samples — unless multiple locations fail at once, so real outages are still detected within one polling cycle.
• Each agent runs a connectivity self-check before reporting failures. If the agent's own network is down, its failure results are discarded instead of producing false alarms, and the location shows as UNKNOWN (no data) until the agent recovers.
• If an agent goes silent, its location turns UNKNOWN instead of keeping the last reported state. UNKNOWN locations don't affect the check's overall status.
